Samsung laying down a strong base for the next-gen Flash products has begun the production process for its 70 nm OneNAND Flash memory. The 90 nm NAND Flash memory process is already being used and the 70 nm will target set-top boxes, digital TVs and digital cameras. Samsung's move is highly appreciable as products are now slowly switching from NOR Flash memory to NAND.

Though with the new OneNAND Flash the write speed will remain 9.3 MB/s the read speed will increase to 108 MB/s, as compared to 68 MB/s of the 90 nm generation. Also the overall cost of OneNAND is low. Samsung is also planning to launch Flash-supported hard drives at the end of this year.
