Samsung SPH-P9200: Depleted ultramobile PC
Ultramobile PC technology represents the new generation of mobile computing. With top brands going the whole hog to create a niche for themselves by leveraging this technology, you can't expect Samsung to lag behind. Quite rightly so, the company has introduced its weird looking UMPC, the SPH-P9200.

The SPH-P9200 features a fold-out keyboard that may not accurately fit the bill of convenience computing. You wouldn't appreciate the idea of fidgeting with the keyboard while on the fly. Most people would prefer the conventional mini keyboard, instead. However, it certainly scores higher than the onscreen keyboard that is featured on the Asus RH2.
With the help of a Via C7-M processor, reminiscent of the one used on the OQO, Samsung's UMPC will certainly not disappoint, unless the OS is on a higher plane like the Windows Vista. The 512 MB RAM and 30GB hard disk memory is pretty decent for starters. The SPH-P9200 also incorporates a 1.3MP Webcam, in addition to mouse keys and an optical joystick. There is a SIM card slot as well as Wi-Fi, WiBro (Korean WiMAX), and HSDPA technology for your connectivity needs. The 5' touch-sensitive display doesn't disappoint either, with the 800x480 resolution ensuring that the pixels are in place. The touch-sensitive screen is also a big plus, since users can browse the web without having to deal with the forgettable keyboard.
There are enough pins and ports for an average user, although the manual is quite depleted on the instructions front. There is a port replicator that offers an additional pair to complement the LAN and VGA ports. The SPH-P9200 will run for 2 to 2.5 hours on a full recharge, although the extended battery can offer you an additional 2.5 hours.
Although not comprehensive in its features (the exclusion of Bluetooth is glaringly conspicuous!), the UMPC from Samsung will certainly find some takers if the pricing is not too steep. Gadget freaks are waiting with bated breath for the SPH-P9200 to cross the Korean shores. Till then, the pricing and other extended specs will remain a mystery.
