Samsung releases a 10.1-inch MeeGo powered netbook N100 in India

Samsung has introduced a 10.1-inch MeeGo OS-powered ultra-portable netbook in India dubbed N100 as part of expanding its netbook market presence in the country. The netbook that features a 1.33GHz N435 Atom processor and 1GB RAM will also run on Microsoft Windows 7. Users, who don’t go with MeeGo OS, can switch the netbook to Windows 7 OS, reports said.

MeeGo is a Linux-based open-source software jointly owned by Intel and Nokia. Samsung N100 has indeed gained attraction thanks to its support of MeeGo OS. The netbook’s 10.1-inch display offers a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. Thanks to its white DuraCase covering, N100 will be resistant against marks and scratches.

The Samsung netbook sports a VGA output, USB ports, multi-card reader and Ethernet port. For connectivity, the device depends on RJ45 port since there is no Wi-Fi. A 3 cell (40 W) battery powers the device quite well. Samsung sells N100 for INR 12,290, that is $280.

Samsung has been a big presence in the Indian market with its smartphones, tablets, and computer accessories and so on. The company unveiled its smartphone Galaxy S II and its tablet Galaxy Tab in India. Maybe, the South Korean technology maker might be attempting to gain a toehold in Indian market for its netbooks.
