Samsung, after launching its BD-P1000 on June 25 would definitely like to give a different turn to the ongoing disc format war and have an upper edge. The company has started contemplating on launching a ‘hybrid player’ with capacity to play both HD-DVD and Blu-ray content.

Bradcom’s BCM7411D, unveiled at the CES, too is compatible with both disc formats, but still there are many pitfalls to take care of. For now, Samsung is keeping its fingers crossed and is silently watching the way the war turns out in the end, especially after the availability of more titles under the both formats, and than only it will go for a hybrid player. In case Blu-ray routs HD-DVD, we doubt there will be any more hybrid players, at least, this year.
