Samsung has done it again. The electronc giant with a flair for show-off has churned out a CMOS sensor that will give goose bumps to the good old CCDs.
Samsung’s new 8.4 megapixel CMOS sensor is the world’s smallest CMOS sensor. Samsung has successfuly squeezed higher light sensitivity and saturation levels into less space using the extended photo diode technology.
And the result is a CMOS sensor with a high signal-to-noise ratio which can give much better results than the CCD sensors, while using one-tenth of the power.
This CMOS sensor could very soon replace the CCDs used in Samsung’s range of mobile phones, camcorders and even digital cameras as it goes into production in the later half of 2007.
