Samsung displays USB-powered ultra-efficient LCD display
Considering the amount LCD displays we see around these days it’s fitting to release one with an extended ability, and that exactly what Samsung did at the SID 2010. Samsung here exhibited an 18.5-inch LCD display which consumes only 6.3W of power, at the company’s booth the display was connected to a PC and was powered by the PC alone via the USB 2.0 port. This ultra low power utilization of the display is made possible by improving the transmittance and the luminance efficiency of the backlight of the panel. The display features LED enabled edge-lit type backlight for the display which offers 1,000:1 contrast ratio with 1,366 x 768, 250cd/m2 luminance. Samsung is expected to mass produce the new low-power LCD display for desktop PCs in 2011.
