Samsung readying 1TB storage per platter, 4TB hard drives seem closer than ever

Samsung announced at CeBIT that its new innovation focus is to enhance the storage capacity of Samsung hard drives. As per the plan the Hard drive space of single platter will be raised upto 1TB under this project. For a single platter 1TB is a massive storage capacity which can be extended up to 4TB with 4 different platters. The concept is Spinpoint EcoGreen F6 series which will include HN-D201RAE hard drives for supporting the platters.

The drives will be coupled with 32MB of cache and 6GBps SATA connection spinning at 5,400rpm. Samsung is hopeful that after 2TB it will achieve storage of 3 TB, 4 TB and 10 TB gradually. The laptop 2.5″ drive, being called as SpinPoint M8 will include 1TB of storage. Along with the 3.5″ drive (rotating at 5,400rpm) M8 will be having slow 3GBps SATA connection. It will be amazing to see such never before huge capacity in just 9.5 mm of casing.
