SAFEE to develop an Onboard Threat Detection System

Security researchers at the Paris-based Security of Aircraft In the Future European Environment (SAFEE) project are developing a system that could one day warn the pilots and the crew members of a suspected terrorist onboard the flight.

The system makes use of a small camera that will not be detectable to human eye and will be mounted on each and every seat of an aircraft.

This camera accompanied with a highly sensitive microphone will capture each and every movement of a passenger and even the lightly whispered words that a passenger makes. The whole system will be controlled by software that would compare the actions that you make with the known terrorist actions. For example Islamic terrorists are known to utter texts from the Koran just before they start the whole operation.

All the audio and video will be gathered during the flight will be finally discarded after the flight so that the passenger liberties are not infringed.

The development of such a system is being undertaken by British and German researchers and has a $50 million budget.

The system can work in air that means that it will also be of great use in trains, buses and other transit systems.
