At last, they have opened their eyes, but anyway, it’s better late than never. Thanks to European Union’s “Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive”, that requires manufacturers to make lead free electronics and also bans cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) or polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE).
The directive will come into effect on July 1. However, despite the efforts made, we doubt that anybody is following the book. However, Toshiba and Apple have introduced RoHS compliant products and are planning to pull out most of their existing toxic products in the near future; Dell, Fujitsu and NEC too will follow suit.
