Robots to be manipulated by Nintendo DS

Posted By: Arpita Mukherjee | Feb 6 2008

Is it possible for robotics to enslave kids and other gaming enthusiasts in the virtual gaming world? Some think that the Pekee robot can do the unthinkable in the gaming world combining the virtual world with reality. The Pekee robot is an open architecture that provides flexibility in robotic development and application. The artificial intelligence technology embedded in the Pekee platform allows the user to design the robots according to their need. This involves planning the path of motion to real time programming in consumer products like robotic vacuum cleaner and interactive toys.

A group of six engineering student from France is working on the robotics technology offered by Pekee to make the robot follow orders sent from a Nintendo DS. The group is working on six modes – directional pad, touchscreen buttons, motion-based movements, stylus strokes, target mode and voice controls using DS microphone, to manipulate the robot.

Some people might consider the application of this new robotics technology quite daunting but the new bots might take the application of Nintendo DS to a new level.
