Interactive robots are my favorites; they are all funny and humble, caring and lovable. Now, adding to the list of my favorites is Nao, a child-like bonding robot which develops emotions and bonding with humans like a one-year-old child would. Developed under FEELIX Growing project, a collaborative effort of eight universities and robotics companies across EU, Nao uses child-like expressive and behavioral skills to understand and interact socially.

The robot can study human emotion by reading body movements and can develop a better relation with humans by studying them over time. Because Nao can remember its interactions with different people and can memorize people’s faces, the robot can get attached to people and vice-versa. Being like a child, the robot needs care and comfort or else or it would express anger and sadness, but once comforted, Nao would be instant in expressing happiness and excitement.
