We’ve seen a few robotic hands and simulators in our day, but this is perhaps the first instance when we have a robotic hand decked out to simulate a Ferrari. Called the Cyber-Motion Simulator, this set up resurrected by engineers at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics in Tübingen, Germany, has a cockpit atop a robotic arm sitting in where a user can experience a drive in a Ferrari F2007 around a predefined track of course. This full motion simulator lets the user sit 7-feet off the ground with everything from pedals to force-feedback steering wheel around for a complete feel. Why the researchers are using the arm-simulator marriage is perhaps to understand the way our bodies experience motion. Hit the jump to see the simulator in action.
