Excavating tunnels need invasive procedures that are expensive and also difficult to design and conceptualize. However, the official excavation for the LCLS has begun and the crew has finally come up with a machine called the ‘Roadheader’. It’s head consists of spikes and Jurassic looking teeth that break down sandstone and move forward. This would help excavators to salvage material that wouldn’t be available otherwise. It has also been called the world’s first hard X-ray laser to be used in a tunnel excavation. The technology might help in developing more sophisticated instruments that would probe further in more impenetrable areas. It is just a matter of time till when LASER would be used to conduct more excavation exercises.
