The robot nurse majorly comprises of soft material, of rubber and responds to voice commands. It has the capability to lift patients from the level of Japanese futon with the help of springs and joints at its base and lower back. The combination of touch-screen interface on the back and rubber sensors will help in guiding the robot to a desired location. The dimensions of robot are: 137 cm in length, 82 cm in width and has a weight of 230 kg.

The development of robot was undertaken by researchers from Tokai Rubber Industries and RIKEN, a natural science research institute in Japan, to take care of growing elderly population. The project was financed by Japanese government and Tokai, and is expected to arrive in markets by 2015 with a tag of 6,000,000 JPY (approx. $77,000).
