color changing material
How wonderful would it be if we could have displays changing color with the changing light in the surroundings? With the lately developed material by the scientists at the University of California, Riverside, it could just about be possible. Adorning traits of colorful birds and butterflies, the reversible color-changing material is morphed into magnetochromatic microspheres that allow for instant change in the color without a change in the actual properties of the structure itself. Using structural color instead of the presently employed static pigments, which rely on light interference to output the desired result, this material responds to magnetic fields and could find a way into the electronic devices of the future. The color-changing material could also be used to create environmentally friendly pigments for inks and paints, thus bringing about rewritable displays along with the color changing ones.
