Review: Toshiba Satellite P755-S5270 15.6-inch laptop with multitasking prowess

Choosing the right laptop is like picking a needle out of the hay. There are so many different types in the market today that it's easy to get lost or make a wrong choice. It specially gets difficult when you are on a budget and would like to have a solid laptop. There aren't many that would fit this category but, Toshiba Satellite P755-S5270 does seem a perfect fit for your pocket as well as your choice.

What is it?

The demand for powerhouse laptops is fairly high, but there are very few that can fit your budget. The Satellite P755-S5270 model from Toshiba aims exactly at this section of the market. It's a laptop with good looks and specs that would make you feel like the smartest shopper in the world. Okay, probably not the world, but surely you will get your money's worth.

Key features

Like most laptops of the mid segment, Toshiba Satellite P755-S5270 comes with Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) pre-installed on the system. Coupled with that is the zippy second generation Intel Core i5-2410M processor and a large storage space of 750GB.

Toshiba is touting this particular laptop as a gaming and entertainment laptop and this is where the specs look really nice for a mid range buyer. Powered by advanced NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M Optimus Technology and 6GB RAM, it clearly spells media and entertainment on the go.

The laptop has stereo speakers from Harman/kardon and also comes bundled with a audio enhancement software from Dolby to enhance the audio quality of the speakers and also while using your headphone. There's also a HDMI port if you wish to hook it up with your home theater or any HD screen.

There are four USBs in the laptop. Two of these are the usual ones, the USB 2.0 while the third one is powered by the latest USB 3.0 technology. There's also a fourth USB, the Sleep and Charge USB, which is an additional feature provided by Toshiba. This additional USB lets you charge your smart phone or any other portable device even when your laptop is in the sleep mode or turned off.

Toshiba has also put in an interesting feature in the laptop which allows you to listen music through your laptop speakers even when the laptop is powered down. Along with that you would also find HD TruBrite LED backlit display for better viewing.

For extending the life of your battery, Toshiba has a very easy to use Eco Mode utility. This lets you manage the power usage of your laptop with just the tap of a button. It's very helpful for those who do not like to fiddle with the power settings all the time. The Eco Mode utility does a good job of saving power.

The laptop has a textured body so it doesn't attract too many fingerprints while you use them for your daily activities, which is always helpful.

There are plenty of options from where you can purchase the laptop. You can either get it from a local store in your area or you can also order online from different retailers such as Amazon, Sears for a better bargain. On the Toshiba website, the price is listed as $879.99, but from online retailers you can save up to $80.

This Toshiba laptop comes with the basic accessories such as the rechargeable lithium-iron battery, AC adapter in the box. The up side

Loaded with entertainment focused feature, Toshiba Satellite P755-S5270 makes a great impression on us. It handles multitasking very well and most of the graphics heavy game, or heavy resources softwares such as CAD or Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom work with ease. The 15.6'' HD TruBrite LED backlit display does a good job of displaying movies and games in great quality and the Harman/kardon speakers offer you a good sound experience. With so many features, one might expect the laptop to be very heavy, but surprisingly it's not.

The down side

It might come as a surprise that there aren't any major downsides to this model from Toshiba. But, that doesn't mean there aren't any nuisances. For example, heavy gamers would find that the laptop would get hot with the graphic settings in high or ultra. Although it doesn't hinder your work or game in any way but, it would be better to have a cooling pad or give a break of a few minutes if you are into hours of gaming.

Another aspect we didn't like was the webcam. The picture quality is not very good, but it can suffice for the usual short web cam chats. Although for such a good bargain, it's a very small price to pay.

Our experience

We had quite a great time using the Toshiba laptop. It does what it says, there's no complain about that. Although, we felt that Toshiba could have done away with the plastic cover and given it a metallic finishing instead.

The bottomline

Toshiba Satellite P755-S5270 is a beast when it comes to multitasking, heaving gaming, excellent graphics, good sound and great build quality. It's quite unbelievable that this packs so much of punch and power at such a price.
