batterybetavoltaic

If you’re sick of the battery back-up that your laptop furnishes, then the find and creation of the researchers at the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory is sure to be a delight for your sickness.

Now, a battery developed by the aforementioned researchers could back that notebook of yours for 30-years, which conked off by the end of the day. This battery, on the table yet, boasts of running the laptop continuously for 30-years that too without a single recharge.

The researchers mentioned have invented Betavoltaic power cells, these cells are constructed out of the semiconductors and use radioisotopes (which is radioactive material) as the energy sources.

The radioisotopes are radioactive but they do not emit any radioactive or hazardous waste, but instead on decaying they emit beta particles that transform into electric power, which then can be used to power laptops.

The new technology or rather the battery is sure to revolutionize our lives - just fathoming a battery living for a good 30-years has already perplexed my thought. These batteries will hit the shelves sometime in the next 2-3 years.
