blast resistant glass 1
Window panes are fragile, because peace isn’t guaranteed anywhere today; blast resistant glasses could just be a good induction to our safe constructions. Thus in effort to devise out something more refined than the presently available blast resistant glasses, researcher from University of Missouri are doing cheaper, thinner and lighter alternatives.

Replacing the plastic layers from the presently available blast resistant glasses with a transparent composite material made of glass fibers, only about 25 microns thick, the researchers will manage more flexible, stronger, thinner and of course lighter glasses least vulnerable to small-scale explosions. Check the video of the glass being tested in an artificially created blast after the jump.

The manufactured glass has been tested, and the results are affirmative. The researchers believe the glass can also protect residential windows from hurricane winds and debris or earthquakes. Isn’t that just awesome?
