Heart patients with pacemakers have a hard life, as they constantly live with a fear lurking in the back of their mind: what if the pacemaker goes haywire? Carol Kasyjanski is one such woman with a severe heart condition and the only thing that keeps her heart beating is her pacemaker. But now, she needn’t worry about it failing or any abnormal heart activity, because she has become the first American to be implanted with a wireless pacemaker.

This device communicates with her doctor’s computer wirelessly and uploads all her heart’s critical info onto it once a day. The doctor, Dr. Steven Greenbergcan, can then monitor Carol’s heart stats from his office only, which saves him time and labor. Should there be any abnormal heart activity or the pacemaker stops working, her doctor would be immediately notified or called by the pacemaker, and he can take the necessary action. Isn’t that an awesome breakthrough for the three million heart patients worldwide?
