halcyon
In Januray of 1985, RDI Video Systems released a gaming console: The Halcyon. Priced at $2500, it is not at all surprising that the system found few takers back then. As a matter of fact only two games were released for the console before the company went bust. It is therefore a bit weird that the system has found its way onto ebay. RDI did have some success in making games. Its Dragon’s lair and Space Ace are part of gaming folklore. Unfortunately its foray into console business didn’t turn out well. But Halcyon did have its share of ‘firsts.’ It was the first console that was claimed to be entirely voice-activated. Also it was one of the first to which let users save their progress.

If you’re a bit of aficionado and have a thing for rarity, this LaserDisc-based system is certainly up your alley. All the original paraphernalia that this console was released with are up for auction. Well, all but the microphone. On the plus side the package does include the only two games that were ever released on this system.

I’d hurry if I were interested in this thing since not many of these were made and still less would find a way onto bidding sites. Last I checked, someone had already bid $1,075.
