Raytheon Killer Bee UAV redesigned by engineering students
When we take defense technologies into focus, Raytheon is a name that has to be mentioned. The major American defense contractor has done what not many choose to do by giving a group of engineering students a chance to develop and redesign a surveillance aircraft. Christened the Killer Bee, Raytheon intends to enter this UAV as a design contender for a competition sponsored by the US Navy. This aircraft with a minimalist wingspan of 10-feet is to be used for surveillance and intelligence efforts using avant-garde sensors.

The research work has been operational since February this year and involves four students that understand aircraft and the related software. The challenge for this team led by UT aerospace and mechanical engineering adjunct professor, Armand Chaput was to increase the aloft time of this UAV. Never before has a group of students got an opportunity to understand how companies like Raytheon develop their high-end products and the students sure are relishing this chance but we shouldn’t forget to appreciate Raytheon in this exercise.
