'Quantum Computer' ready to make breakthrough in computer history
When it comes to 'Quantum Computers', geeky eyebrows get raised at once. Well, it has been always given a highly regarded position in the esoteric dome of supercomputers. Though most of the engineers thought of a quantum computer to be in far future, a Canadian firm named D-Wave Systems Inc will be unveiling one on Tuesday. The machine is said to be performing 64,000 calculations at once. Herb Martin, the firm's CEO commented:

Digital computers are good at running programs; quantum computers are good at handling massive sets of variables. A quantum computer could be used to design genetically based drugs.
Keep in mind that a DNA in every human cell has 3 billion "base pairs on that famous helical ladder.
The existing prototype is of the size of a big freezer that employs superconducting circuits that need to be refrigerated, almost to absolute zero. It could solve immense problems that are ahead of the reach of current digital computers. And yes, we have no idea whether it will be hitting the shelves near you or not.
