Qualcomm unveils world's first chip with multiple mobile TV standards support

Raising its head out of the battlefield in the US, where Qualcomm is entangled in a different battle with Nokia, the company is about to raid the telecommunication field in Japan with its new all-in-one cell phone chip. What makes the 'Universal Broadcast Modem' (UBM), unveiled by Qualcomm, that promises to bring mobile television to consumer mobile phones, special is its capability to support three leading mobile television standards: FLO (forward link only), developed in part by Qualcomm; DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting-Handheld); and ISDB-T (Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting-Terrestrial).
