Quad-Core Processors to hit Server Markets

Posted By: Anupam Jolly | Nov 9 2006

Dell has already won the Quad-Core Server race by introducing a system that runs Intel's quad-Core Clovertown processor and I strongly believe that more vendor in the x86 server market will make such announcements in the near future.

IBM has already started to think about the user requirements and the limits of multi-core processors.

IBM thinks that there will not be expected results for the multi-core systems as the technology that can fully exploit the capabilities of these processors has not yet been developed by any manufacturer and there is little hope of some one developing such a technology in the near future.

However, Dell is strongly supporting the multi-core systems by saying that such systems offer you better power and performance. Dell also believes that a single quad-core processor server is a sweet design for the servers of the future.

IBM also believes that having more than eight cores in a processor would be useless as the as it would require high-level parallel processing which is almost impossible to build.

System X global brand manager Stuart McRae also believes that X3 chipset will lead the markets at least until 2008 after which X4 chipsets can take their place.
