Qantas’s new check-in system keeps track of passengers with the a chip

Qantas has unveiled a check-in system of the next generation that will keep track of the passenger with the help of chip enabled Q card and will keep track of the luggage with RFID enabled electronic Q Bag Tags. Q card, also called the frequent flyer card, will be embedded with a smart chip that will help in identifying passengers and the flight bookings. The RFID enabled electronic Q bag tags are linked to the passenger’s accounts, consequently, holding all the information. These tags also have a sensor, the presence of which makes it easier to find the luggage. According to Qantas, the security is also taken care of with the help of a three way passenger match system. This system is slated to be put to test next week in Perth before it is sent out to other cities in 2011.
