Imagination is the only weapon with scientists and researchers that has given us technological breakthroughs like cellphones, laptops and even computers for that matter. Now things have really changed and researchers imagine what no one can even think of today. Now imagine clothes that have electronic devices woven into them, and these electronics also have the ability to stretch, move, bend and even get washed along with the clothes! Sound’s interesting isn’t it?
Researchers from the Gent University in Belgium led by Project Coordinator Jan Vanfleteren are working on something they call SWEET. No thats not to be the taste of the electronics but rather Stretchable and Washable Electronics for Embedding in Textiles.
These researchers have presented several configurations of stretchable electrical conductors. This was achieved by embedding a horseshoe-shaped conductor on a stretchable film of silicon. Thing just don’t end there. The team is also working on a project named BioFlex, where they are looking into electronic devices and wiring that can be implanted inside the human body and then can be bended and stretched to adapt to deformations in the organs where they finally will be implanted. These devices will also be covered with body-friendly materials to minimize the chances of damage to human tissue.
