Project HAPTEX to develop a tactile interface
A team at the University of Geneva lead by Professor Magnenat-Thalmann is working on the HAPTEX project, which will develop a tactile interface bestowing the consumer with the sensation of feeling the virtual textile. The project is financed by the Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) program, a division of the Information Society Technologies (IST) that focuses on novel and emerging scientific ideas, under the Sixth Framework Program (FP6) of the European Union.

It is basically a research project on multimodal perception of textiles in the virtual environment, aiming to develop a Virtual Reality System (both software and hardware) for visuo-haptic interaction with virtual textiles.
Just imagine the potential about overseas product presentations or sensing different materials from miles away. Simply amazing!
