Professor Nigel Allinson, University of SheffieldProfessor Nigel Allinson of the University of Sheffield is out to fight crime. The professor is currently working on a technique to help investigators catch culprits by means of a shoeprint.

Basing his research on the assumption that every criminals always leave shoeprints behind at a crime scene, he seeks to locate the guilty by subjecting his shoeprint to several different image processing techniques to expose the features on the sole. And when finished the system will classify the features on shoe soles and compare it with the records on file thereby making investigation easier for the police.

On tests it was 85% precise and when finished with an improved detection rate and more user friendly features no one will think of committing crime ever again.
