Do I need a computer to read my email? Well, not exactly. After PDAs, cell phones, and other gadgets like cordless phone consoles that allow people read emails; the latest in the non-computer based email technology is Presto. Funny name, but there ain’t nothing funny about its utility.

The company aims this product primarily at the senior citizens. This can be referred to as an online printing service. It helps the entire family stay in touch with each other. Presto has launched this printing mailbox in collaboration with HP.

How does it work?

Basically, this is an online printer. First, you go and buy this tiny little printer from the store.

Second, opening an email account with presto service costs about $100 a year. I think this is pretty cheap for this kind of a service. Anyways your grandparents wont mind the price so long the product is hassle-free. The printer costs you about $100.

Third, the printer can be hooked up within 5 minutes. It’s that easy.

At Presto.com you can list a bunch of people who you are going to message. Once the email is complete, the printing mailbox prints it off at the receiver’s end.

Also, you have to set the times of the day when the printer would go online to receive stuff by dialing a Presto number. The online presto account is a one time set up deal which also lets one pick up the desired font size.

Pros and Cons

This is really nice system. If you think about it, there’s no ’side effects’ of using the internet. You get a clean inbox free of spam. No weirdos to deal with online.
No junk mails and most importantly, no technical knowledge required. A clear winner! Also, this is way easy to set up.

However, the image resolution is low. The service is also available internationally. Although, it has certain restrictions, I’m sure your grandparents would be pleased to be brought back into the technological realm.
