Four students of Aalborg University in Denmark have developed a nanotechnology-powered smart fabric for mobile and laptop recharging. The technology is named Powertex by its designers. The electronic devices just need to be placed on the fabric, which can be integrated into mats and table covers. Amazingly, the foldable fabric can be used for upholstery purposes with the additional feature of recharging.

At a party or meeting, the Powertex fabric technology will be a great advantage for participants as they can recharge their mobile phones or laptops while having a coffee from the same table. Aalborg University students namely Hans Christian Thiesen, Mads Gydegaard, Morten Ydefeldt and Marius Koppang are behind the groundbreaking fabric technology for mobile and computer recharging.
According its developers, they wanted to make mobile and computer recharging cord-and-adaptor-free. The technology also realizes the possibility to recharge gadgets on-the-go. Indeed, Powertex will help often-traveling people not take the burden of adaptors, power cords or other rechargers.
The Powertex technology is chiefly proposed for upholstery fabric in public transport systems, airports, trains and other public spaces. That means passengers can just place their phone or laptop on the surface of the seat to get them automatically recharged.
The Powertex fabric technology recently received top prize at the coveted Future Textiles International Prize Competition 2011 at TEKO Design + Business, VIA University College, in Herning Denmark. Developers of the technology received 6500 EUR as prize money for their innovative technology. Watch the video below to know more about this splendid fabric mobile recharging technology.
