If you have had the misfortune of sitting through hours of your boss murdering one of your favorite songs at the company karaoke nights, then you will not be at all impressed with the “Hi-kara” portable personal karaoke machine. Created by the Japanese toymaker Takara Tomy, the 7 cm weapon of mass destruction features a 2.4-inch display, weighs less than a pound and works just as well as a real karaoke machine (yikes!). Since the thing lets you pick songs on its list as well the ones downloaded of the net and $40 music cartridges, you’re pretty much doomed to paying hefty bucks to your shrink to get over the agony of being “treated” to musical specials in the office day in and day out. The “thing” comes with headphones and a speaker attached, and is expected to retail for about a $100 when it hits stores later this October.
