If you are a heavy-duty online communicator, the conference phones introduced by Polycom and ClearOne Communications are must for you.

Polycom Communicator for Skype and ClearOne Chat 50 target people hooked on to the Internet via their laptops. Both speakerphones are compatible with Skype, but Chat 50 is further extended to Vonage and other voice based chat services such as AIM and MSN Messenger and can even be hooked on to your cell phone via audio cable.

Both the devices are embedded with echo cancellation technology, allow full duplex calling, and draw power form USB. As far as sound quality is concerned, the Chat 50 scores above the Polycom. The microphone pickup range of Polycom too is less, up to 7 feet, whereas Chat 50's pickup in the 9-foot range. Installing Polycom's software is a bit tricky and sometimes it doesn't work at all.

Check out what other problems Edward C. Baig faced while experimenting with the two conference phones. Over all, ClearOne Chat 50 is worth the deal.

Price:

Polycom Communicator : $130

ClearOne Chat 50 : $150
