Necessity is the mother of invention! Or maybe desperate times call for desperate measures. Well whichever way you might look at it, the fact is that Polish people have found ways to display great ingenuity when it comes to tending to their farms. With great workman-like ethics, Polish farmers constructed amazing farm vehicles out of spare parts and other vehicles like motorcycles and jeeps. This was mainly done in the 60s when the communist government was unable to provide tractors to the private farmers. The latter of course were too poor to afford any of their own. Hence the DIY tractors!

An exhibition displaying some of these marvelous creations is currently on at The Żak Gallery in Berlin. Photographed by Lukasz Skapski, the exhibition throws light on hand-made tractors by Polish farmers. Skąpski has photographed his collection during his travels in Poland since 2005. The exhibition is on till March 3. And if you do want to witness industrious Polish farmers at their very best take time out and have a look.
