Electricity has great importance in our lives, but many parts of world are still in dark. They do not have any electric supply and their houses remain in dark even during the daytime. The people living in these places need help for sure. It is true that there have been many technological advancements, but these are useless for people living in such parts of the world. For these poor people, students from Massachusetts Institute of Technology have tried to concentrate on the basic technology and develop a solar bulb. This intelligent invention of the students have lighted up the lives of so many people.

The interesting solar bulb does not require any electricity. It does not even have any metal filaments, fluorescent gas or LED diodes like the normal bulbs that we find in the market today. The new bulb is very simple, made of just one-liter plastic bottle, water and some bleach. It works on the concept of diffraction of light. The water in the bottle diffracts the sunlight and spreads it all over the house, thus lighting the whole area. The bleach is added to keep the water fresh and free of microbes for a long time. The students claim that this bulb can last for five years and its light is equivalent to a 60-watt bulb.
The organization called Isang Litrong Liwanag has already started the installation of this amazing bulb. It has already installed around 10,000 bulbs all over the poor parts in Philippines. The installation of this bulb is also very simple and can be done in less than an hour. The bottle of water just needs to be attached to the metal roof and the unique bulb gets ready to light up the room.
Such an intelligent idea has proved to be a boon for so many poor people whose lives were in dark from such a long time. A simple technology has brought happiness to millions of people. The best part is that the people do not need to pay electricity bills for this light. This bulb gives ample amount of light and that too free of cost.
