Pioneer Japan unveils GPS with Augmented Reality Navigation for cars

Pioneer Japan has launched world’s first live Augmented Reality Global Positioning System (AR GPS). The four products with AR GPS were unveiled recently by the company. The description and specifications were mentioned by the company but it didn’t reveal the price of the product. The company has said that AR GPS system presents live photographs as guiding tools to enable a driver navigate without any confusion. This actually sounded cool when heard for the first time. It is, in fact, first of its kind that such a navigation tool has popped-up.

While navigations are nothing new to cars, the specialty of AR GPS system by Pioneer Japan is that the navigation bar will shoot the live photographs of the area in front of the car. Generally, navigation system will give rough idea to make the driver trace out the place. The rough picture would be something like a map. But, here the AR GPS system by Pioneer Japan will display the real map in live.

The camera that is placed right on top of windshield of the car will capture the photographs with absolute clarity in fraction of seconds and displays on the digital screen that is present in the car. This helps a person to drive the car with much comfort and style even on the unfamiliar zig-zag roads. The accuracy of the guidance of AR GPS was said to be cent per cent. Further, it will be useful in calculating the distance between two points in no time thus enabling the driver to maintain required fuel in the car.

What are other specifications?

Wide VGA screen that will be installed in the car, digital TV tuner card, DVD, Bluetooth, USB port, 5.1 channel audio output, HDD navigation maps are the other specifications. The price of the AR GPS is yet to be announced by Pioneer Japan. The four AR GPS products are scheduled to be released by the end of May 2011. Once the price and product is out, we will present more information about the product and the response from the public. The most is most likely to become a big hit not just in Japan but in other parts of the world too.
