Pincher robot defuses IEDs with its rocket launching ability

Though hard to believe that a cute little robot could stop bombs, Rafael is here to prove it right. The Israel’s state-owned arms-maker has come up with a miniature robot that comes loaded with dozens of rockets that can disable Improvised Explosive Devices from long distance. Dubbed the “Pincher”, this micro-rocket system comprises of a robotic platform, sensors, aiming devices, and remote control. The eight inch long arrow-shaped rocket is made using unique pyrophoric material that causes the charge to burn, instead of explode, eliminating the risk of explosion and debris. Equipped with a video camera and laser pointer, the war-head can precisely hit the desired target from a maximum distance of several tens of meters.
