With the single-box surround systems gaining more and more popularity, many companies are popping out sound systems to exploit the market. Philips has now made its debut in the virtual surround market with their Ambisound HTS8100 system.

The Ambisound system comes rocking with virtual 5.1 surround sound from a single 5-inch deep box and a single subwoofer. Other than that, it has a -channel amplification system and a built-in upscaling DVD player with HDMI 1080p output. I have no doubts about the upscaling quality of the system as video processing is handled by a Faroudja DCDi chipset.

Coming this spring, the Philips Ambisound HTS8100 will hit the shelves for $999.
