Pursuing your craziest whimsies is appreciable for the fact that you do what your heart says and not what the world wants. The Australian doctor, Peter Teren, may be called a self-proclaimed celebrity but at least his achievements make us forget that sour bit. His latest display is a modern thinker’s pose in which he becomes a human sparkler for 15 seconds by passing 200,000 volts of electric charge over his body.
The thinker is actually replicating Rodin as a statue. Teren wanted to reflect on the modern electrical age with an onslaught of electrical interference. Another reference drawn is that of the “eye of Sauron” from the Lord of the Rings, as he uses a Tesla Coil to convert the regular electricity into a super-charged bolt of power.
Safety was an obvious choice and therefore he used an insulating foil, a tin foil cap and a wire mesh mask just to ensure that the shock wasn’t fatal for him. To add little spark to the shock he added steel wool on the bottom of his left shoe and then raised it slightly, just as the picture reveals.
