Perceptive Pixel uncovers a gigantic 82-inch pro-cap LCD display

Perceptive Pixel has launched what it calls the world’s biggest multi-touch project capacitive (pro-cap) display at SIGGRAPH 2011 in Vancouver, Canada. The 82-inch breakthrough LCD display adds depth into the Perceptive Pixel’s innovations in multi-touch technology. The display deploys the same technology the firm used in its recently unveiled 27-inch pro-cap desktop display. The new gigantic display is touted to be a perfect solution for corporate presentations, classrooms, and command rooms of the defense agencies.

The new display is so slimmer that it measures just six inches depth. The full-HD display has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. It has a remarkable 120MHz touch response capacity. Ultra-low parallax and mission-control reliability will make it far more competitive in the market replete with various types of displays.

Certainly, there are many other hugely-sized displays in the market, but the one from Perceptive Pixel differs because it is certainly peculiar in its capacities. The company has procured panels for the display from the South Korean technology maker Samsung. But some modifications were made to integrate its own network of sensors on the panels.

According to David Slobodin, the Vice President of hardware engineering at Perceptive Pixel, no other company in the world will be able to bring out such a precise and huge multi-touch displays. The company’s LCD displays often set the very standard in the entire display industry, he added.

But price of the advanced displays from Perceptive Pixels always put them away from the grabs of common consumers. The company sells its 82-inch and 27-inch displays respectively for a price tag of $12,000 and $120,000. And so, only the displays are only affordable to business consumers at the moment.

As per the company sources, the $120,000 priced 82-inch display remains a hot product in the market. It seems that companies like CNN and other corporate companies are the usual consumers of the large multi-touch displays. Meanwhile, Perceptive Pixel is to mass-produce the 82-inch display in quarter four. The company is to accept more pre-orders for the display from the next month.
