More and more parents are resorting to high-end wireless communications systems to keep track of the whereabouts of their children. Telecommunication companies, including Sprint Nextel, Disney Mobile and Verizon Wireless, too are hitting the nail on its head by introducing more and more GPS enabled tracking services and in fact, luring parents into the ‘trap’.
The location-based services empower users to see the exact location of an individual’s phone on a map displayed on the handset. Parents can even use web-based applications to track their kids. In addition, some services also alert parents as soon as their kids breach the preset geographic boundary or reach a particular location.
Children definitely hate to carry such phones that not only put a leash on them, are also not equipped with hi-tech features such as cameras, MP3 and ring tones. The concept gives all reason to children to feel that slavery is forced upon them in the name of security. Although, from parents point of view, the service might seem feasible, but what if is switched off by the child or it’s out of signal range. Eventually today’s well informed kids will certainly puncture the bubble. Just wait and watch.
