Paralight - Unmanned vehicle for aerial photography

Posted By: Jaiyant Cavale | Jul 9 2008

The developments in technology have resulted in an increasing demand for aerial photography solutions. Most aerial photography today requires satellites or other expensive instruments. An Israeli firm 'Paralight Aviation' has developed an unmanned vehicle, which is capable of taking aerial photographs. Trekkers, farmers, security prefessionals and also wildlife authorities can use aerial photographs. The vehicle, which is named ‘Paralight’, is controlled by a joystick, which would be connected to a powerful servo and does the balancing act of tilting left or right and controls the direction of the aircraft. The simple operations, ability to hover slowly, and the stability of the motorized parachute make it one of the most eagerly awaited unmanned commercial vehicles. The control range extends to distances of up to 1.5 km. The standard digital still cameras can be mounted too, with only the mode having to be selected before the take off. The vehicle is considerably cheaper when compared with other Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) currently in use. Future models might include cellular phones, GPS, dedicated software and other such technologies being attached to the original vehicle. The company estimates the cost of the Paralight to be in the range of $5000 and $10,000.
