Paper and cardboard figures using D-Torso

Have you ever seen stylish objects made not out of metals, plastic and other materials but using cardboards and paper? Aki, a Japanese company started producing figures made out of card boards and paper as a part of its D-Torso system. This is a 3D figurative system which is used to divide the 3D data into sliced data and cutting them out of cardboard. This system doesn’t use any metal materials.

Many innovative designs such as robot, paper computer, yellow giraffe, pink pigs, cats and other 3D cardboard sculptures have been made. These models were presented at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) and were sold as hot cakes in Japan.

The data pertaining to the design of the object is managed by computer. Enlarging and reducing the size of solid model objects is also possible. The user only cuts according to the design specifications and puts them together. The method of preparing these models is easy. They are lighter to carry, ship and are cost effective than compared to those prepared with metals, plastic or any other material. These models are also environmental friendly. Aki also uses this method for packaging purpose including an adorable penguin-shaped wine holder and a cute pig-shaped package to hold gifts.
