There is good news for people addicted to the internet, as web giants Google Inc along with Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd’s, Panasonic unit is developing televisions that will display Internet content including photos and videos.
The TVs, which are expected to be launched in North America in spring 2008, will allow users to directly browse and access videos from YouTube (video-sharing web site owned by Google) and view Picasa Web Albums (free online photo-sharing service again from Google).
For those who are not aware, Internet TV as the name aptly suggests is television distributed via the Internet. Internet television utilizes the connections of the Internet to deliver video from a source to a target device. Internet TV is different from IPTV.
IPTV users are generally limited to a small range of high-quality programs, whereas an Internet TV user may have access to many thousands of channels from literally all over the world, though without any guarantee of being able to watch them at all!
Don’t rejoice too soon; hang on patiently, since the global launch date is yet to be finalized.
