Palm files patent for a laptop with detachable cellphone

Palm has been dormant in the manufacturing department since its takeover by HP, but a new patent application reveals that the manufacturer had been silent because they were cooking up something really innovative. According to the patent, Palm visions a 3G data modem enabled laptop which pops out a handset to make calls. The handset which would cling to the back of the laptop like the battery would, when in use, remain connected to the system via Bluetooth. There’s no word on whether HP is actually fascinated by the patent and would consider developing a product based on the same, but we think the supposed device could have VoIP services as an added benefit for the user, that if the makers find the proposition rewarding.
