simroid
What if your dentist is able to feel the pain of your toothache? The long painful hours spent at the dentist, when we used to sit clung to the chair, hearing the screams or looking at the long faces that used to finish their sessions and come out, I used to think if only the brute (at that point time the dentist!) could feel the pain that he is infesting upon so many people. Oh, what we would give only if he could! I used to feel; don’t they teach them to be gentle at their colleges?

There seems to be a fair amount of hope now. At least the Japanese dentists are going to be trained to understand the patient’s pain. A team of doctors and researchers have demonstrated a humanoid robot (a sexy-looking young woman), named ‘Simroid’. Simroid has been developed to understand and react to pain, exactly as we do, making faces!

Simroid is 160-centimeter long, wears a pink sweater and has long black hair. It looks very human. It has simulative sensors attached to its chest and once the dentist touches or drills a nerve, it can say ‘ouch’ or ‘it hurts’.

The research team says it has been developed to train the dentist to understand and better communicate with patients. So, the dentists learn that we are human beings not vegetables. But, it is strange that they need robots to understand human pain?

So, what’s next, I have to go to a robot trainer to teach me how to laugh or cry?
