OptiX - World's first Ray Tracing Engine brings CGI to life
The SIGGRAPH conference over the years has shown what the future has in its womb for CGI. Nvidia launched the OptiX ray tracing engine a few days back, along with three other engines viz SceniX, CompleX and PhysX, which goes to prove the same. The highlight of the event was the OptiX engine, which is the world's first programmable Ray Tracing Engine.

The OptiX engine is a programmable ray tracing pipeline that will enable software developers to raise the bar of realism in their applications, using C programming. This engine is a very prolific prospect for automotive styling, photorealistic rendering, acoustical design, optics simulation, and radiation research and volume calculations. These engines will revolutionize both real time graphics and advanced data analysis.
•The Nvidia SceniX scene management engine helps developers to manage 3D data and scenes in real time.
•The Nvidia CompleX is a scene scaling engine that enables scaling performance over multiple GPUs.
•The Nvidia PhysX 64-bit physics engine provides real-time and hyper-realistic physics for physical and environmental effects.
The SceniX and CompleX engines are available right now, while the OptiX and PhysX 64-bit engines will be available in the fall of 2009. You can download this state-of-the-art technology for free at the Nvidia home page.
