With rising crime rates, The Home Office in U.K will provide residents with Google-style images of crime scenes and where exactly they took place. A resident could effectively check how many violent crimes took place and exactly where and how close they were from the incident. The maps would be available online and also in leaflet forms and incidents of crime can be searched with the help of postcodes. Graphs indicate the statistics, and clarify trends, month on month crime comparisons, and specific kinds of crime. A red key indicates vehicular crime, and a blue one indicates youth nuisance. Green key suggests anti-social behavior. The idea is to involve the public in fighting crime and also protecting them at the same time. Crime mapping had been encouraged by Google themselves earlier this month but critics have pointed out that it may fuel crime rates paradoxically. For now, the pamphlets and online crime maps provided by the British police seem to be the best idea. The maps are available on BeatCrime website.
