NTUST robots bring laurels home from 2008 Contest of Innovative Intelligent Robots

The 2008 Contest of Innovative Intelligent Robots was recently held and co-sponsored by Taiwan Shin Kong Security (SKS) Co. Ltd., and the Farglory Group. NTUST robots held its name high by winning prizes in various categories. The DOC-3 robot, from NTUST, bagged the first position in this competition and was awarded a cash prize of NT$200,000. This "homely" robot was built by a team of four graduate students led by their professor Jerry Lin, the director of the NTUST Intelligence Robot Research Center.

The Doc-3 is an autonomous, multifunctional-intelligent robot that can recognize you (through facial features), narrate stories, play games (chess, backgammon), teach spelling, do math, or even sing you a lullaby to sleep. Other robots that brought laurels to NTUST were the Painter Robotic Arm and the Bodyguard robot. They won a prize of NT$25,000 and NT$50,000 respectively.
