Apparently, NTT wants to slay Blu-ray and HD DVD much before they raise their fangs. Taking the sting out of the ongoing digital format war, researchers at NTT Basic Labs have developed an ultraviolet LED giving way to optical storage capacities much powerful than the Blu-ray and HD-DVDs.
The super LEDs could also be used to kill bacteria and decompose dioxins and PCBs. The aluminum nitride 210-nanometer (UV) wavelength LED will soon catch up with 405 nanometer Blu-ray.
