Now let your iPhone 'Scan It' and do the monthly shopping!

Here comes a new iPhone App that offers a preview of the personalized, self-service future of shopping that is simple, efficient and fast. The app created by Modiv Media lets customers scan items while they shop and presents them with personalized options as they go and speeds up their checkout. There are various companies wanting to snag up this delectable app and first to lay hands on this delight is the Shop & Shop, which operates more than 375 supermarkets in the eastern United States.

The version being used by Shop & Shop is called Scan It. It works on the basis of using loyalty-card numbers. After installing the app, users have to load in their loyalty card by capturing it with the camera and the iPhone is shop-ready. The users can then take it to the supermarket, and each grocery that they are purchasing is to be scanned by the camera, upon which it captures the bar codes and adds the prices to the running total. The checking time is thus saved since the only thing the customer is left with to do is to pay up, though at times a store can ask its customers to undergo a check by employees just to ensure that all the items in the grocery cart of a customer are accounted for and this is more of a precaution than part of a procedure.

The app uses the data from the loyalty card on the basis of previous customer transactions and works in addition to the existing loyalty program thus offering savings on top of the deals already being advertised by the store. Once the user is done shopping the information of the groceries is sent to a specific end point noting system of the store thus enabling the user to go to any register, scan and pay for their order.

Previously, Modiv had to introduce in-store handsets which the customers could use but now with the improved cameras in phones, the company has been able to lauch the app. An additional advantage of the app is that it brings the retailer and the customer closer; a customer can directly avail offers and pricing etc. from his retailer instead of having to go down to the store aisle every time.
